2017 Dinghy Rope Midland Series - Barnt Green Open cancelled.

I'm sorry to say the Barnt Green Solo Open on 16th of September has been cancelled.

Barnt Green is a canal feeder reservoir, formed by a dam beneath which is a valve which needs to be replaced. The lake has to be emptied to achieve this. We were aware of this impending work, but understood that the water levels would be maintained until the late Autumn. In their wisdom the CRT have started to empty the lake earlier and faster than was anticipated. I therefore have to advise that our Open Meeting, scheduled for the 16 September will have to be cancelled.

2017 Dinghy Rope Midland Summer Tour.

Join the Midland area summer tour. Four events in four weeks. Once your boat is on the trailer why unpack ! The next four events in the Midland series are on the 10th of June at Northampton then on the 18th June its Shustoke, 25th June Chelmarsh and 2nd July Midland SC.

The Midland Area are averaging 33 boats per event this year, so pack your boat up, leave it on the trailer and come to four great events.

You only need 5 events to qualify for the series. The first 23 qualifiers will receive a £25 Dinghy Rope voucher (Dinghy Rope are a 5 star customer rated online chandlery providing cheap rope and other sailing accessories including Zhik clothing) plus there are prizes from Fernhurst Books for Vintage boats and from the Solo association.

Area Reps letter to the Midland Solo Fleet

Area Reps letter to the Midland Solo Fleet,

Dear Solo Fleet Captains.

The 2017 Dinghy Rope Midland Series is about to start.

The first event is at Draycote on the 1st of April. The second event is at  Banbury on the 22nd April.

There are a few changes for 2017 season. There will be 11 events with 5 to qualify. Draycote are coming back into the Midland Series and will hold The Midland Area Championships. This is a new event for our area and will be part of Will Loy's Area Championships series.

We have a new sponsor.  'Dinghy Rope' have kindly agreed to sponsor the series with an increased prize fund which should mean all qualifiers will receive a voucher of around £25.  If you follow the link to Dinghy Rope on the Solo web page, you will see they not only sell a full range of ropes but also chandlery and clothing, all at a discount price.

There will be Vintage prizes this year. At the end of the series, the top 3 Vintage boats will receive additional prizes. Boats with sail numbers below 5000 (Built before Feb 2009) will be classed as Vintage. Originally I was going to use Will Loy’s definition ie Boats with sail numbers below 4268 but when I looked closely at last years Open meeting entrants there were very few boats this old taking part. I want the Vintage category to be competitive and so I think making it open to newer boats will mean far more boats taking part.

I’m pleased to say that Fernhurst Books have agreed to sponsor the Vintage category and will give the winner at each event a book. I hope this will encourage people with older boats to travel to events and qualify for the series. Thanks to Duncan Syme for suggesting the idea.

The team prize will continue this year with the top three boats for each club counting towards the Midland Area Team prize. Northampton is the current holders and were worthy winners last year.

There will be 11 events this year which I think is right and is one more than last year. This means we have more clubs wanting to hold Opens than there are spaces, so to decide which clubs have their open in the 2018 Midland Series I will again create a Midland League table at the end of the season. The bottom Club or Clubs will be dropped in 2018. Please support your home club by qualifying for the series, enter your home Open and join the association. This you will help your club's league position.

The 11 events this year are;

Can I ask each club sends a Open meeting report to Yachts and Yachting again this year. It really does make a difference. Just a few words about the day, mention the sponsors and if you can a couple of photos.

The Midland events and information are posted on the Solo web page and on Facebook group ‘Solo Midland Area’so please take a look and come and join us, please remember we are in the middle of the country so none of you have far to travel!

Banbury Open

2016 Rooster Midland Series - Banbury

Chris Brown 2016 Banbury Open meeting winner. Chris has just won the first event of the 2016 Rooster Midland Series at Banbury. Good turn out of 24 boats (the best turnout for some years) had a great days sailing. Chis won the day with some great sailing but the day had one thing missing , Apple Crumble for pudding. Chris was so determined to find some crumble that in the third race he even looking on the bottom of the pond but sadly Crumple was off this year.

2016 Rooster Midland Series about to start, are you ready!

Can anyone spot the cat!

Rooster Midland Series

Hi All,

Hopefully you have had a good winter and are all fit and ready for the new season.

The start of the 2016 Rooster Midland Series is only a few weeks away with the first event at Banbury on the 2nd of April.

Banbury always hold an excellent open and we normally get a good turnout for the series opener. The racing is always tight and exciting , a good way to blow the winter cobwebs away and get into the new Open season.

Rooster have agreed to support the region again this year with a very generous offer of prizes.  The prize fund for the season stands at around £450 and this will be distributed as follows, 1st to 10th places in the overall series will get £25 Rooster voucher and the first 5 will get an additional prize from the Solo association , 11th to 17th will get a £10 Rooster voucher. The winners of the Team prize will get a £10 Rooster voucher each . In addition to these prizes I'm looking to get series t-shirts made and these will be given out during the season when each competitor competes four events and qualifies for the series.

 Regards Nigel Davies.
