National Solo Class Committee
Please take time to read this posting. The NSCA committee require recruits to fill a number of positions, some, such as the Vice President have been vacant since 2015 while others will need filling at this July’s AGM at Royal Torbay.
Vice President- This role needs to be filled soon as I will be stepping down as President at the 2018 AGM. It is also good protocol to share decisions now that will effect the next President so have a good think and let one of the team know that you are interested! Who would be a good fit? A keen Solo sailor who wants room at every mark without having to ask.
Hon. Secretary- Generally first point of contact for non members wishing to know what the class offers so enthusiastic about all things Solo. Taking committee meeting/AGM minutes and circulating them back to the team to action. Keeping the President on the straight and narrow, akin to “the hand of the King” so calm and concise with an unfathomable knowledge of the workings of the inner circle.
Hon. Treasurer- This is currently a time consuming role but with the utilisation of automatic renewal should become easier in 2018. Unfortunately we are generally a fleet of dinosaurs so online banking, Webcollect etc are less appealing than cheques and cash. Good bookkeeping knowledge is a pre-requisite so this may well appeal to a retired banker, you know who you are.
Editor- A great role for someone with bundles of enthusiasm for the class and some imagination. Providing an interesting read while creating a platform from which our suppliers wish to advertise. Pretty much a free rein to create a magazine in your own magnificence. Spell check has made it so much easier! If that all sounds too much then our printer can collate articles, we just need an individual to strong arm the contributors.
The committee are conscious that some of these roles could be split into smaller bite size pieces so please do not be put off by a perceived heavy workload. That said, we currently have to pay for website hosting and maintenance and if we have to go down the route of outsourcing some of these tasks, subscription may have to increase to cover it. We have historically been a committee of volunteers, National Solo sailors who wish to continue to support the class by assisting in the running of it. Please do not let these positions fall on to the shoulders of the few.
You can contact myself or any committee member to voice your interest. In the meantime the committee will be investigating possible outsourcing costs and inevitable subscription increase fees.
Look forward to hearing from you, Will Loy NSCA President
