Area Reps Report

Sailing Chandlery 2018 Midland Series Final Results.

top 4 in the 2018 Sailing Chandlery Midland Series, LR - 1st Ian Ingram 4th Nigel Davies, 2nd Chris Brown, 3rd Martin Honnor.

Staunton Harold - Final event.

Well that's it fokes, the 2018 series has finished.

For the top 3 it ended up being a very close finish at Staunton Harold.

A a good turnout of visiting boats, some trying to qualify traveled to Staunton H. the sun was out and the breeze was up, well F3, the tide was out but that didn't make any difference there was still plenty of water.

Ian Ingram was leading the series coming into the last event, Martin Honnor needed one more event to qualify and with three seconds could win over all. Ian kept a close eye on Martin making it difficult for him to get the result he needed and so congratulations goes to Ian for being the 2018 champion.  Well done to Ian Capener for winning the Veteran prize.

The first lap of every race was very close with the whole fleet within a few boat lengths.  The third race saw pretty much the whole fleet trying to get around the second mark together, great racing. Chris Brown won the day and just piped Martin to 2nd overall in the series.

Prize Giving will be at King George, Oct 27th.

I will give out £25 Sailing Chandlery vouchers via email to the series qualifiers and at King George the Top 5 and first Veteran will get additional prizes.

Results are at the bottom of the page.

Bartley Solo Open 7th oct.

Alan Bishop winner of the Bartley Solo Open.

Ogston 30th Sept (joint with Northern Area, Final Mini Series Event),

Ogston had a great turnout of 29 boats. The Mini series was won by Chris with Martin 2nd but on equal points.

Mini series prizes.

Area Report

This year the Sailing Chandlery Midland series has been hit by poor winds. Both Shustoke and Chelmarsh held their meetings but in very light winds, the forecast did put off the majority of travellers so turnout for these two meeting was disappointing but understandable. Hollowell also had very light winds forecast but they chose to postpone their meeting, there is a chance it will be rearranged later in the year.

Barnt Green's pool was drained for maintenance but due to the low rain fall the pool has not refilled so their meeting planned for September has been cancelled. Due to this I have reduced the number of events needed to qualify for the series to 4.

At the start of the season we had good winds and turnouts at Banbury, Carsington and Northampton so at the mid season break Ian Walters is leading the series with Nigel Davies 2nd and Bob Suggitt in 3rd.

The next event is on the 8th of September at Notts County, this is our Midland Area Champs and is part of the super series, Northern, Midland series and is the second part of the joint mini series (the mini series is a joint series with the Northern area, you need to attend two events out of Carsington (sunday), Notts County and Osgton to qualify). Ogston will be on Sept 30th and will be the last part of the Sailing Chandlery mini series, I hope to announce the results and present prizes for the mini series after the racing at Ogston.

The rest of the season looks like;

Notts County 8th Sept.

Ogston 30th Sept.

Bartley 7th oct

Staunton Harold 20th oct

Prize giving will be held at the EOS event at King George Sailing Club on the 27th October.

The Area needs a new Rep. I stepped down as rep at the AGM but will finish off the 2018 season. We need a new rep to start ASAP so they can plan the 2019 Season. So if you ever attend the events please consider giving something back and run the Midland Series. I will be available to offer advice and will give the new person a full handover.

The Midland events and information are posted on the Solo web site and on Facebook group ‘Solo Midland Area’ so please take a look and come and join us, please remember we are in the middle of the country so none of you have far to travel.
