Ive lost my flaps at sea. (dont ask :))
So I need to replace them - I guess I just buy some 1mm plexiglass and tape it back on? - Is there not a better solution?
Ive also had my Solo full of water a couple of times. What the quickest and best way to empty it whilst still sailing? Ive used the self-bailers ok but just wondered about the method (downwind upwind etc)
Lexan is a really good flexible material for transom flaps, mine are secured with a length of keel band (very short screws!). As Ian said, a length of elastic to a hook is the easiest way to close them.
The quickest way to empty after filling up is a beam reach with the flaps open (assuming there's enough wind - if not, how on earth did you capsize?) 😛
Get a piece of 1mm plexiglass and fix in the centre of the two holes. Thin shockcord from the centre of both apertures and hooked off the hog allows you to unhook after a capsize and dump water faster.
Its not really full of water- its Uncle Jacks little joke!
