Another season finished for the Midland Series with the Inlands and EOS to still look forward to.
It’s that time of year when the nights are drawing the autumnal colours are staring to appear and winter isn’t too far away. A period of reflection on the sailing season has a number of thoughts running through my head. This Midland events were certainly lighter wind affairs this year, which seemed to be much better for numbers attending but, in my opinion, not as much fun as having to work hard to keep the boat upright.
With less events in 2023 opposed to the 2022 season there haven’t been as many participants overall but the average attendance certainly increased. This year 95 sailors took part in the series with an average of 22 at each event. 6 out of 8 events held had more than 20 sailors attending which meant it was probably one of the hottest contested series in the country given how close Solo racing always is right throughout the fleet.
6 different winners, more female and junior members taking part in events this year shows the Solo is one of the classes in the country which is thriving.
A new Midland Area rep for next year with Maria E Franco taking the reins and with Allen sponsorship confirmed again I’m positive the series will be even better in 2024.
Congratulations to Martin Honner who is the 2023 Solo Midland Area Champion.
Finally, the prizegiving and draw, for qualifying sailors, for the new cover from CB Boat Trailer and Cover Store and a boat restring from Jackson Composite repairs will be made at the prize giving at the EOS at Draycote.
