Which hull for 88Kg helm? topic

Richard Bundock posted this 02 June 2020

I'm just upgrading from a wooden Boon to a GRP hull and am interested in which hull shape I should go for. I used to use a Selden D+ with North P2 sail both of which worked well.

Can anyone offer advise for a 88Kg sailor who mainly sails on a old grave pit but will travel to open meetings when Covid-19 decides to go away... My budget is around £5k so should be able to buy a good 2nd hand boat. Thanks

I comment ready to step aside when someone front of the fleet comments! But surely the differences in hull shape are there originally to allow the small tolerances from home building and if there are any small speed differences they are likely to be cancelled by one duff tack or a poor start.

I would be looking at the condition of the hull and quality of the fit out as much more of a factor than the name of the builder.
